Siemens NX Tutorial: The Short Version
A Siemens NX tutorial should get you from File > New to a solid you can measure, on Designcenter 2606 (June 2026). inteliScience trains DACH NX teams on that path, then on the templates and NXOpen that make the hundredth part look like the first. Sketch on a datum, extrude, save as a master model. Do not start in Drafting.
| Step | Command | Done when |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | File > New > Model | You have a .prt, units set (mm) |
| 2 | Sketch on XY | A closed profile, no leftover curves |
| 3 | Extrude | A solid body in the Part Navigator |
| 4 | File > Save | Named, not “model1” |
The Problem: Most “Siemens NX tutorial” Videos Skip the File
You search Siemens NX tutorial (or Siemens NX Tutorial Deutsch) and you get a 40-minute modeling circus. Nobody tells you which template, which units, or that the drawing is a second file.
That is why new hires on NX 2412, 2512, and 2606 all fail the same way. They model in the drawing. They mix mm and inches. They never Fix the first component later. The software is not the bottleneck. The file is.
This Siemens NX tutorial stays on one part, on Designcenter 2606. Siemens renamed NX CAD to Designcenter in the June 2026 release (Siemens Designcenter). The ribbon still says NX in half the shops we sit in. Same binary. If your help says Designcenter, you are on the current train.
File, template, units
File > New. Pick Model, not Drawing, not Assembly. Units: millimeters unless your customer default says otherwise. Name the part before you sketch. bracket_001.prt beats Part1.
Customer Defaults (File > Utilities) set the default units; the site’s .pax template files decide the template list. A shop that skipped that conversation is why every intern’s first part looks different. We would advise against a tutorial that never opens Customer Defaults. That is the first production gap: one seat, one template, or chaos.
Designcenter Copilot (two stars next to Search in Designcenter X) can tell you where Extrude lives in 2606. It will not pick your template. Keep it for help. Do the file hygiene yourself.
Sketch, then extrude
Insert > Sketch. Pick the XY datum. Draw a rectangle. Dimension it. A sketch without dimensions is a doodle. Close the profile. Finish Sketch.
Extrude. Select the profile. Distance 10 mm. Boolean: you have no second body yet, so None. Apply.
Measure the volume (Analysis > Measure). If the number is nonsense, your units were wrong two steps ago. Fix that now.
# Sanity check after the tutorial part exists (NXOpen, Python, NX 2606).
import NXOpen
session = NXOpen.Session.GetSession()
work = session.Parts.Work
n_solid = sum(1 for b in work.Bodies if b.IsSolidBody)
print(f"solid bodies: {n_solid}")
If that prints 0, you still have a sketch, not a part. Stay in Modeling.
What this tutorial is not
It is not CAM, FEM, or a drawing. Those are separate applications with their own licenses. A first-part Siemens NX tutorial that jumps to a drawing sheet is teaching the wrong file model. Master model: the solid lives in .prt. The drawing is another .prt that contains the model as a component.
Siemens Xcelerator Academy and the Design Associate exam still test this. Student Edition 2026 (June release, Software Center from July 2026) is enough to follow along on Windows 64-bit.
The Designcenter 2612 Early Access Program ran VIP weeks from 14 to 25 September 2026. The sketch-extrude-save loop will not change. The Copilot prompts around it will.
This runs as a POC. What’s missing for production: Company templates, layer standards, Teamcenter item types, and the NXOpen that stamps the 500th bracket the same way. We close that gap in Siemens NX training.
What to look for in a Siemens NX tutorial
- Version. 2606, 2512, or 2412. A 2018 YouTube is a different ribbon.
- File first. Template and units before the first line.
- One application. Modeling. Not Drafting in the same breath.
- A measurable solid. Volume or mass, not “looks about right.”
- A next file. Drawing, assembly, or CAM as a new part, not a tab you forgot.
Siemens NX solutions for us means that fifth point is a process, not a weekend video. inteliScience runs this path with DACH engineering teams until the template is boring.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should a Siemens NX tutorial cover first?
File > New > Model, units, a dimensioned sketch, Extrude, Save. If the tutorial opens Drafting first, skip it. The solid is the source. The drawing is a consumer.
Is there a good Siemens NX tutorial in German?
Yes, after you learn the English command names. Designcenter 2606 help is bilingual in most DACH seats. This page is the English source. The German commands (Skizze, Extrusion) map 1:1. We translate the published version in TranslatePress.
Which NX version is this Siemens NX tutorial for?
Designcenter 2606, June 2026. Sketch and Extrude are stable back through 2412. Copilot and some Assemble UX are not.
How much NX do I need for this tutorial?
A Gateway plus Modeling. Student Edition 2026 is enough. CAM, Simcenter, and Topology Optimizer are extra licenses. Do not buy them to finish a first cube.
Can Copilot replace a Siemens NX tutorial?
For “where is this command,” yes. For which template your shop uses, no. Copilot reads Siemens docs and recent commands. It does not know your layer standard.
