Parametric Part & Variant Generation
Parametric Part & Variant Generation
Your designers don’t design the 37th variant. They re-enter it. A generator does that part — from your own template.
Parametric part generation creates new Siemens NX parts and variants from a parametric master template and your data: dimensions from a table, options from a rule set, attributes from your ERP — instantiated through NXOpen as real parts with expressions, sketches and features, on your part template. It is deterministic at the core, the way variant work should be: the same input always produces the same part. AI assists only at the edge — mapping unstructured inputs like requirement lists onto template parameters, always shown for review before anything is generated.
It is the “generate parts” engine of our AI-Assisted Geometry Creation discipline — the series counterpart to the conversational Geometry Creation Assistant (one ad-hoc part from a prompt), and the generic sibling of our industry-proven transformer variant design.
Who this is for
- Your products are configured, not invented: the same part family in many sizes, spacings and options.
- Variants are modeled by copying the last one and editing carefully — hours of re-entry per order.
- The driving data already exists — in order tables, ERP fields or spec sheets — and gets typed into NX by hand.
- Quotation needs presentable geometry fast, long before detailed design starts.
- Errors creep in exactly where work is dullest: transferring numbers, not making decisions.
// Three order lines in — three parts out, on the master template
| variant | L | W | holes | option |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MP-220-A | 220 | 80 | 4× M8 | slotted |
| MP-260-B | 260 | 90 | 6× M8 | — |
| MP-300-A | 300 | 90 | 6× M10 | slotted |
source: order table (Excel / ERP export)
- MP-220-A.prt — expressions set, rules passed · template checks OK
- MP-260-B.prt — expressions set, rules passed · template checks OK
- MP-300-A.prt — expressions set, 1 rule note: hole spacing near limit — listed for review
Deterministic where it counts. The generator instantiates your master template — same input, same part, every time. Rule checks catch inputs at the template’s limits and list them for the engineer instead of generating quietly past them.
What the generator is used for
Variants from order & ERP data
The driving dimensions already live in your order tables — the generator turns them into parts without anyone re-typing a number.
Early geometry for quoting
Presentable, dimensionally correct models from spec values — hours after the enquiry, long before detailed design.
Catalog & standard-part series
Whole size ranges generated from one template — consistent, on your naming and attributes, ready for the library.
Requirement lists mapped to parameters
Where inputs arrive unstructured, AI proposes the parameter mapping — shown for review before generation, never fed in silently.
How it works
The foundation is a parametric master template — built together with your designers, with named expressions, rule checks and your part standards baked in. The generator instantiates it through NXOpen: reads the input (table, ERP export, reviewed parameter mapping), sets expressions, runs the template’s rule checks, and writes finished parts with your naming, layers and attributes. Runs happen on your infrastructure; results land where your process expects them — folders or Teamcenter.
Honest limits
The master template is real engineering work — and it is the point. A generator is only as good as the template behind it: which dimensions drive, which rules guard the limits, where the design intent sits. Building that template with your designers is the core of the PoC, not a hidden prerequisite. Inputs outside the template’s envelope are listed for the engineer, not silently generated — and topology changes beyond what the template covers mean extending the template, which we say plainly instead of pretending a generator designs.
Pick the right tool for the volume. For one ad-hoc part described in a sentence, the conversational Geometry Creation Assistant is the better fit. This generator earns its keep where the same family repeats — and if your case is a deep industry configurator, our transformer variant design work shows what a fully built-out version looks like.

Copy-and-edit variants
hours per variant
- Numbers transferred by hand from the order into the model
- The forgotten edit from the copied donor part — found downstream
- Designer hours spent on transfer, not on design
