NX Check-Mate vs DOCUFY DQM: The Short Version
NX Check-Mate is the validation framework built into Siemens NX: hundreds of standard checks, custom-check authoring and HD3D reporting. DOCUFY CAx Quality Manager (DQM) is a partner product inside NX with more than 450 configurable checks, guided correction and automated healing. inteliScience, an official DOCUFY partner, implements both; the fit depends on who writes your rules and who fixes findings.

The Problem: CAD Quality Rules Everyone Knows and Nobody Checks
Every NX organization has a set of rules that live in a PDF: layer categories, attribute completeness, expression naming, allowed sheet sizes, PMI that must be semantic, no unused sketches, no suppressed features in a released part. The rules are agreed, and they are checked when a downstream process fails: a drawing that will not update at the supplier, a CAM setup that collides, an ERP import that rejects a BOM because an attribute is empty.
Manual review does not scale. In DACH machinery organizations we work with, a single released assembly can carry several hundred parts, and the person who knows all the rules is usually also the person the project cannot spare. Automated CAD quality checking moves the review to the designer’s desk, while the part is still cheap to change. Both tools compared here do that. They differ in where the rules come from, who maintains them and what happens after a finding.
What Is Siemens NX Check-Mate?
Check-Mate is the validation capability inside NX, now branded Designcenter Check-Mate. According to Siemens it includes an extensive library of hundreds of standard checks in modelling, drafting, product and manufacturing information (PMI), geometry, routing, welding and other applications, and an authoring tool with which you create custom checking functions [1]. Validation runs continuously and automatically and notifies the user when a design fails to comply with standards, best practices or engineering requirements.
Results are presented through HD3D Visual Reporting: flow lists, visual tags, tooltips and see-through display modes that mark the affected objects in the model. Check-Mate can run interactively on the open part or in batch mode over many parts. Since 2021 custom checkers can also be written in NX Open in every supported language, with set-up, customization, execution, documentation, result saving, smart checking and batch mode, and all checker results can be saved to Teamcenter; the same release replaced the Java Qdashboard with a quality dashboard offering summary reports and result search per part file or checker [2]. Requirements Validation, the second half of the framework, allocates requirements from Teamcenter to product subsystems and validates compliance during design.
Check-Mate’s strength is that it is already there. If your NX licence includes it, the framework, the standard checks and the HD3D reporting cost no additional tool budget; what they cost is the effort to configure profiles, write the company-specific checkers and keep them running through NX releases.
What Is DOCUFY CAx Quality Manager?
DOCUFY CAx Quality Manager, DQM for short, is a quality assurance product from DOCUFY GmbH that is fully integrated into Siemens NX. DOCUFY states that it ships with more than 450 standardized and configurable best-practice checks that detect errors in 2D drawings and 3D parts and check compliance with design, manufacturing, assembly and procurement guidelines [3]. Deviations are shown to the engineer inside NX; for supported checks, automated healing functions correct the deviation, and other findings are accompanied by guided correction instructions.
Two further capabilities matter for this comparison. Batch processing analyses large volumes of NX data in one run, which DOCUFY positions for standards roll-outs and for reducing tool and component variety. And configuration is done per company: the checking processes are adapted to internal guidelines, standards and design rules rather than written as code by the customer.
The current release, DQM 2026.1 of 30 March 2026, supports NX versions up to NX 2512 and added seven checks, among them PMI view validation with attribute correction, PMI view count limits, drawing view alignment inspection, part attribute comparison by formula and assembly collision analysis verification. The INFOTAB gained attribute editing, attribute type definitions and sheet-metal unfolding volume; Teamcenter integration was extended so that properties can be written to Item Revisions and datasets and the Validation Master Form can be read and written [4]. DOCUFY names customers including Hermle, GRIMME, Volvo Cars, Putzmeister, Lemken, Goldhofer and the Chiron Group, and offers a 90-day evaluation package with company-wide use, customizing and consultant support [3][5].
inteliScience is an official DOCUFY partner, and Vision4NX technology from inteliScience is integrated into DQM. Our role is the fit: we evaluate how DQM maps onto an organization’s existing NX environment and quality rules, encode the rules, and connect the checks to the Teamcenter release process.
Where the Two Approaches Differ
The tools overlap in purpose and differ in operating model. Check-Mate is a framework: powerful, open, and yours to build out. DQM is a product: opinionated, preconfigured, and maintained by a vendor. Neither is a shortcut around the hard part, which is writing down the rules.
Standard checks
Both ship hundreds of ready checks. Siemens’ library spans NX applications broadly, including routing and welding, because it is the platform’s own framework. DOCUFY’s 450-plus checks are concentrated on the design-data quality questions a mechanical engineering organization asks of parts and drawings: attributes, layers, structure, PMI, drawing views, naming, standard parts, relationships [3]. For a typical machinery design department the DQM library will cover more of the daily rules out of the box; for a routing or welding-heavy environment Check-Mate’s application coverage counts.
Company-specific checks
This is the real fork. In Check-Mate a company rule becomes a custom checker, historically written in Knowledge Fusion and since 2021 also in NX Open. That gives complete freedom and requires a developer who owns the checker through every NX upgrade. In DQM a company rule becomes a configuration of the checking process, done during the roll-out with DOCUFY or a partner. That is faster to stand up and easier to hand over, and it is bounded by what the configurable checks can express. Our clear recommendation: if your rule catalogue is mostly attribute, structure, drawing and PMI rules, configuration wins on total cost; if your rules need arbitrary geometry algorithms or application-specific logic, plan for custom checkers regardless of which tool you choose.
Error detection and reporting
Check-Mate’s HD3D reporting is the more visual of the two: colour-coded tags in the model, flow lists, see-through modes, plus the quality dashboard for aggregated results. DQM shows findings directly in NX and adds the INFOTAB, which since 2026.1 lets the engineer edit and clear attributes in place. In practice the difference is less about display and more about the next step.
Correction and healing
Check-Mate reports; correcting the finding is the engineer’s job, or the job of automation you build. DQM, for supported checks, corrects automatically through healing functions, and for other findings provides guided correction instructions [3]. DOCUFY does not claim that every check heals, and neither do we. But for the high-volume findings, attributes, layers, drawing housekeeping, healing is the difference between a report that is read and a rule that is enforced.
Batch scenarios
Both run in batch. Check-Mate offers a batch mode alongside interactive checking, and Siemens’ 2021 update brought batch mode to NX Open checkers as well [2]; DQM’s batch processing is positioned for large data volumes, for instance when a new standard is rolled out over an existing vault or when component variety is to be reduced [3]. Choose based on who operates the batch: a CAD administrator who is comfortable with NX batch tooling, or a quality owner who wants a configured job.
Governance and roll-out
A quality tool only works if its rules are versioned, owned and enforced at release. With Check-Mate, governance is entirely yours: checker code, profiles, Teamcenter integration. With DQM, DOCUFY states that the tool is ready out of the box with preconfigured routines and that a team is productive within two days [3][5]; the rules are configured, versioned as configuration and supported by the vendor. Teamcenter matters in both cases. Check-Mate results can be saved to Teamcenter; DQM 2026.1 writes properties to Item Revisions and reads and writes the Validation Master Form, which is how a check result becomes a release condition rather than a note.
When Check-Mate Is Sufficient
Check-Mate is the right answer more often than a partner would like to admit. It is sufficient when the licence already includes it and the organization has a CAD administrator or NX developer who will own custom checkers; when the rule catalogue is small and stable; when routing, welding or other application-specific checks dominate; when the team is comfortable that findings are corrected by hand; and when Requirements Validation against Teamcenter is part of the process. We advise against buying a second tool to replace a Check-Mate profile that works and is maintained.
When DQM Becomes Relevant
DQM becomes relevant when the rule catalogue is long and changes with every customer or norm, so that writing checkers no longer keeps up; when there is no developer who can own Knowledge Fusion or NX Open checkers through upgrades; when findings pile up unfixed because correction is manual, so that healing and guided correction change the outcome; when a standard must be rolled out over thousands of existing parts and drawings in batch; and when the quality owner sits in methods or quality rather than in IT and needs a configured product rather than a framework. Organizations with in-house manufacturing feel this first, because bad CAD data hits their own CAM and CMM before it hits a supplier.

Where Vision4NX Fits
Vision4NX is inteliScience’s Siemens NX technology, and it is integrated into DQM. In this comparison its role is deliberately narrow: the deterministic checks stay deterministic. Vision4NX brings NX and engineering knowledge into the quality workflow, so that a finding is not only flagged but explained in the terms of the applicable standard or company guideline, and so that the engineer who has to decide about a deviation gets the context for that decision. It does not replace a rule and it does not decide a tolerance.
Decision Framework
Six questions settle most evaluations. Answer them before any demo.
- Who writes the rules? A developer who can maintain checkers, or a methods team that wants to configure? Developer favours Check-Mate custom checkers; methods team favours DQM configuration.
- How long is the catalogue, and how often does it change? Under twenty stable rules: Check-Mate profiles. Dozens of rules that follow customers and norms: DQM.
- What happens after a finding today? If findings are corrected within the same day, reporting is enough. If they accumulate, healing changes the economics.
- Which applications? Routing, welding, application-specific validation: Check-Mate’s breadth. Parts, drawings, PMI, attributes: either, with DQM covering more out of the box.
- Batch over the vault? Both can; decide who operates it.
- Where does the result have to land? Teamcenter release condition in both cases: Check-Mate results saved to Teamcenter, DQM properties on Item Revisions and the Validation Master Form.
If three or more answers point to configuration, healing and a quality-owned roll-out, evaluate DQM on your own data. If they point to a developer-owned framework and broad application coverage, invest in your Check-Mate profiles and checkers, and we will help you build them.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is NX Check-Mate?
NX Check-Mate, now Designcenter Check-Mate, is the validation framework inside Siemens NX. It provides hundreds of standard checks across modelling, drafting, PMI, geometry, routing and welding, an authoring tool for custom checks, interactive and batch execution, and HD3D visual reporting of the findings.
Is DOCUFY DQM better than NX Check-Mate?
Neither is better in general. Check-Mate is a framework you build out with your own checkers and maintain yourself; DQM is a configured product with more than 450 best-practice checks, guided correction and automated healing for supported checks. The better fit depends on who writes your rules, how many there are and whether findings are being fixed today.
Does DQM replace Check-Mate?
Not necessarily. Organizations can keep Check-Mate profiles for application-specific checks and use DQM for company guidelines, drawing and PMI quality and healing. Both write results into Teamcenter, so a release gate can combine them.
How much does DOCUFY CAx Quality Manager cost?
DOCUFY offers a 90-day evaluation package for company-wide use, including customizing and consultant support, listed at €2,950 plus VAT for Germany, Austria and Switzerland; licences follow as rental or custom agreements. The implementation effort, rule encoding and Teamcenter wiring, is scoped per organization; inteliScience does this as an official DOCUFY partner.
Which NX versions does DQM support?
DQM 2026.1, released on 30 March 2026, supports Siemens NX versions up to NX 2512 according to DOCUFY. Check the current DOCUFY release notes for the version you run.
